How To Make Money On Clickbank: A Simple Step-By-Step For Beginners

how to make money on clickbank step by step

Want to learn how to make money on Clickbank for free?

You can!

And today I'm going to lay it all out for you.

But first, let me tell you a story…

Picture that pesky door to door salesman.

Ever notice how he always shows up when you’re at home, spits up some pre-rehearsed rhymes and tries to sell you completely useless crap?

Who on earth needs a bloody eyeball massager?

Really gets on my nerves.

That’s until I realized that salesmen are just about the smartest fools on the planet – they figured out an ingenious way to make money without investing every ounce of energy in product development.

Problem is, these harebrained goofballs got it all wrong…

Why waste all day shoving junk in people’s faces for a 3% commission when you could be nudging the right junk in the right people’s faces for 75% of the profits right from your living room?

Here’s where making money on ClickBank comes into its own.

Are you ready?

I'm gonna show you how in this simple four step guide.

While terms like pesky and nettlesome are well-suited for our door-to-door salesman here, it’s only inevitable that at some point (after knocking down almost 100 doors), he’s bound to make a sale.

It’s only a matter of time and fortitude before he finds someone who desperately needs their eyeballs massaged.

And at that point, the salesman ceases to be annoying, becomes a lifesaver and makes a decent commission in the process.

Not bad… But why settle for a depressing, one-horse side show when you could be running the MAIN EVENT.

I’m talking about an unlimited capacity stadium with millions of people all eager to grab their very own eyeball massagers.

If our deficient salesman woke up one day and realised that by targeting specific products to specific people, he could improve his sales beyond his wildest imagination.

How can he reach out to all these potential customers?

Well, the internet of course.

There are over 2 billion souls surfing the big bad web at any given time. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like way more people than walking around (menacingly) banging down random doors.

Where Does ClickBank Come In?

ClickBank saunters right in to help millions of overworked, underpaid people break the seemingly indissoluble chains of the 9-5.

Here’s how it works: by signing up with Clickbank, you can make money in one of two ways.

One, you could go the old-fashioned way and create a product, list it, then wait for sales.

Or, you could go right ahead and skip all that nonsense and earn serious money by just promoting products, earning commissions and having fun in the process.

What Is ClickBank?

I know what you’re thinking:

It’s probably one of those sites where you get paid like 0.0003 cents to click a few links per day.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

Boasting of six million plus registered users, ClickBank is an affiliate program that seamlessly facilitates over 32,000 digital sales daily.

Users here create and promote an array of digital products. As a promoter, you have the potential to earn a 5 to 75% commission rate depending on which products you choose.

Just follow this step-by-step guide to find out how to make money on ClickBank for free.

1. Grab Some Free Training at Wealthy Affiliate Before Signing Up on ClickBank

Immediately after you sign up to become an affiliate with ClickBank, you gain instant access to browse all products up for sale. At any given time, there are roughly tens of thousands of products available.

This is why you need to carry out some meticulous and painstaking research to find out the ideal niche to promote, as well as the levels of commission percentage available.

Here's a quick video walkthrough from the creators of ClickBank on how to run a successful ClickBank campaign:

Wealthy Affiliate equips you with all the tools and information you need to land on the perfect niche products to promote.

You also get insider insight on how to identify potential champion products guaranteed to generate tons of sales and how to avoid vendors with catastrophic, dead-end products.

They teach you the process of making money with affiliate websites and covers these 4 crucial steps:

what is affiliate marketing and how does it work process

Can you make money with ClickBank without a website?

In the short term perhaps you can grab a few sales here and there but all of the top affiliate marketers create a niche affiliate website that acts as the main platform and foundation for their affiliate marketing efforts.

2. Promote Products with ClickBank

At this point, I'm gonna assume you've already got a website for promoting the products of your choice.

If not, don’t even fret! The great thing about joining the Wealthy Affiliate training program is that you get 2 free websites to kick start your online business career. However, I always recommend starting your blog on your own domain. Wealthy Affiliate can still host it under the Premium membership.

Here's why starting a blog on your own domain is always the best option.

Once you’re all set up with a marvelously designed website, a clever, relevant domain name and a popular but largely unexploited product, it’s time to shift that marketing gear to full throttle.

Unlike other affiliate marketing programs, ClickBank starts at what should be initially the last step – the product.

Since you already have a list of products to promote, the next stage involves pulling in the masses.

“Come one, come all; I got exactly what you’re looking for!”

3. Generate Insane Amounts of Hype and Traffic

What’s the quickest way to get customers to visit your store?

Simple: print some fliers, post a couple of ads, get the newspaper in on it, heck, get someone to tattoo their entire body with your products; the idea is to get the word out!

However, all these methods are super expensive and don’t actually hit your target audience.

We’re almost in the 22nd Century damn it!

This is the internet- to get the word out; you need to bust that Microsoft Word out.

Nothing creates a more loyal and ever expanding following than fresh, unique and highly exciting content that is 100% relevant to your audience.

I know, I know, writing a clear, concise and lengthy piece about how some product worked wonders for you can be a bit tough, especially if writing isn’t your strong suit.

Guess what, building houses isn’t my strong suit, but I live in one, don’t I?

The point is, there’re lots of people out there who can provide absolutely gorgeous content that will have massive amounts of traffic crowding to your website.

It’s all really simple; create content, draw people in, promote products, then sit back for the grand finale.

4. Make the Commissions Rain Like a Tsunami

Although it all started with the horse in front of the cart, ClickBank allows you to take advantage of this and throw stuff in.

By creating your content; your business based around products you ensure that you reach out to a specific audience looking for that product.

The larger your traffic base, the higher the conversion rate, and of course, the more sales you make by directing people to the products through your website.

With each purchase, you get a hefty commission of up to 75%.

However, it’s not that easy…

DO NOT make the mistake of confusing increased traffic for amplified sales.

Most newbies think that more traffic automatically results in more sales.

Well, that might be true to some extent, but the only way to perpetually increase sales is by focusing on conversion rates.

If you can find some way to raise traffic while increasing conversion rates, the profits recorded could be insurmountable.

You have to keep enhancing the value and authority of your site on a regular basis.

Once you get a customer, make sure you keep them loyal with newsletters and email marketing.

“They'll laugh at your dreams until you start getting paid.”

The Bottom Line

To ensure your chances of success, I recommend creating an account at ClickBank.com to get access to their wide array of products and start the free training at Wealthy Affiliate so you can have the right know-how to build your first site, attract visitors and learn how to increase sales.

I always insist on being as honest and as open as possible with my readers, which is why I must reiterate the fact that ClickBank is not a get rich quick scheme.

Like all my other recommendations and guidelines for successfully turning your blog into your personal cash cow, this too requires training, hard-work, determination, patience and a resolve forged from the toughest steel.

With the right attitude and a precise guide on how to make money on Clickbank for free, you’ll be smiling all the way to the ‘ClickBank’ in no time!

  2. Hi Simon, love this article! You sound like you really know what you’re talking about. I’m looking to make money online for free as I need to do it quickly. I’m more than willing to put in the work and do whatever it takes to get there. If I join Wealthy Affiliate as a free Starter member do I then have to pay a monthly fee? Are there any other costs involved? You seem really honest and I appreciate that. I’m only asking because most training sites for setting up an online business start off with one fee and than add more prices and upsells so you end up having to pay out more than you first thought.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you

    • Hi,
If you need to make money quickly then I honestly wouldn’t recommend you start any kind of online business as it can take a few months for any online business to get established and start turning a profit. As a beginner, there’s lots of skills you need to master and that can take time.

With the Wealthy Affiliate Starter membership you can be a free member for as long as you like, there’s no time limit. If you want to start learning how to make money online for free you can take the free training course and use their free website software to create your site on a free domain. At some point, you’re probably going to want to upgrade to the Premium membership so you can get full access to the training courses and community support and get help daily as you build your business. This is $49 per month. Everything you need is included, except $13.99 per year for your own domain which I recommend. There’s no other upsells or costs involved.
      I hope this helps!

    • Hi Mohammad, thanks for reaching out. I hear you. It doesn’t matter what you choose to promote, if you really want to make money with Clickbank you’re going to need to get more traffic.

Simple fact: Your website + more traffic = more success ($$$)

So here’s the deal: I never pay for webste traffic, I just don’t need to. The training at Wealthy Affiliate (which is free) will show you not only how to create affiliate sites in minutes and explain how the process of making money blogging works but most importantly, how to get a steady, growing stream of website traffic using the power of search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Don’t get me wrong, I dabble a little in social media marketing too and recommend all new bloggers to get social, but the stats for visitors from social are completely different to people landing on my site through search results. They spend more time on site, have a higher click through rate and engage more overall. Why? Because people use sites like Facebook and Twitter to casually browse the web and they’re just no in the ‘buying mindset’. Compare this to someone searching online with a question you can answer, with a problem you can offer a solution for – can you see how it’s completely different?

I’d highly recommend you check out the Wealthy Affiliate training (link to full review) and spend time working your way through the course, it’s where I learned how to get more than 2,000 unique daily visitors to each my niche sites. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on 🙂

  4. I really like the simplicity of clickbank in terms of anyone being able to just jump in there and promote their products – it’s actually my favorite affiliate platform. The only downside I find is the initial check payment…as I’m in the UK which is a bit of a pain for my bank. Great and simple run down of tips you’ve covered here!

    • I totally agree Chris, I think one of Clickbank’s strong points as a centre of affiliate programs is the fact they have such a wide range of products and services to choose from in almost any niche.

  5. Hello Simon:
Great post! I really enjoy your writing style, how you show how to do things step by step and give reasons why you are doing it. I have heard good things about Clickbank and bad. I definitely like the sound of 75% commissions. Your review was very insightful and very informative. I am glad you clarified a lot of questions I had, cleared up. Thanks for sharing this valuable information.

    • Thanks Darrell, Clickbank is neutral, it can be good or bad depending on what you choose to promote and what products you choose to make money with.

There’s great products and just plain out scammy products on Clickbank – so it’s always worth doing due diligence and I mean looking beyond just the commission percentage and gravity score.

Take a look at the refund rate, check out the product itself – will it add value to your readers, will it help them, does it offer a solution? I think do this and you’ll serve your blog’s reputation and readers well.

  6. Excellent overview of clickbank and wealthy affiliate on your site. I definitely think that before anyone jumps into click bank, they should get the tools they need to develop a website and learn how affiliate marketing works. W.A. offers absolutely everything you need to get up and going, and allows you to develop 2 websites for free. It is a no brainer for anyone who is just getting started with online business. Clickbank is one of my go to affiliate programs, the commissions are great and its very user friendly. Great post!

  7. Hello and congratulations on a well written post. Clickbank is a marketplace of many affiliate offers any affiliate marketer can leverage to their benefit. But, knowing clickbank exists, doesn’t make any difference. The missing component there is wealthy affiliate, which is my top recommendation for everyone starting out online. Cheers!

  8. Hello

Thank for this article, I didn’t knew about clickbank
75% of each sale you make does sound really appealing, Amazon commissions are really low and sometimes you feel like you are been a bit cheated.
I’ll deftly give clickbanks a chance and we’ll see how it goes.

    Keep teh good work.

    • Hey Ruben, yeah I have a love/hate relationship with the Amazon Affiliates program – I love it because they have such a wide range of products and a finely-tuned sales funnel, but I resent the fact their commissions are so low.

I think linking to Amazon is fine to supplement your income, but if this the primary way you’re monetising our site, you might be waiting a while for your first cheque.

Take a look around ClickBank and see if there’s something relevant you can offer, try it yourself and maybe write a review or two.

Please let me know how you get on!

  9. Hi Simon,
I have bookmarked this site for information on making money. Clickbank sounds like a great way to make money. I like the huge 75% commissions they are offering, and know that sounds much better than 4%. I know that the training at Wealthy Affiliates is great, so combining that with Clickbank, sounds like a winner.I mean 32,000 digital sales a day, wow! Do you know how long it might take to get my first sale if I already have my website up and running? Thanks for all the great information, and I am looking forward to trying this out.

    • Hey Chas,

How long can it take you to make your first sale? Ir depends on how established your site is and how trusted you are in the eyes of Google already.

I made my first sale in the first month, I’ll never forget it! I wrote a book review for my church growth/leadership development site, someone clicked on the Amazon link and didn’t even end up buying the book but they bought a black and decker juicer instead : )

Because of the 4% commission I made just over $1 (they really should look at upping that percentage rate, it makes me mad!) but I was so excited… because it showed me that this online business model works and all I had to do was rinse and repeat.

Cheers Chas, let me know how you get on with ClickBank, always happy to help!

  10. I enjoyed reading your post. So easy to read and you made it all so interesting, fun to read also. Once I get established here at WA, I am most certainly going to check out clickbank. All of this is new to me and I appreciate it when someone takes the time to explain things in a simple step by step way. I hope to one day be where you are at WA.

    • Thanks Rowena, I had fun writing this one!

ClickBank is good because of the wide range of products available to promote and the commissions tend to be pretty decent.

You can search by categories which means you can dig deeper until you find a product you want to promote that’s relevant to your website niche and target audience.

Oh, and if I can do it, you definitely can do it too : )

  11. I used to have a couple of websites about 6 years ago and started to earn some cash with some affiliate products from Clickbank but sort of drifted into more Adsense based design then moved into offline business. I’m thinking it’s time to try again. Clickbank here I come, I wonder if my old account will still work.

I can see that you are an expert on internet business, and your ClickBank review is pretty solid. Like you say, there is no need to have all those difficulties outside when you can be the BOSS directly from your home.
And I also recommend WA to begin an online campaign succesfully. Thank you for sharing and have a nice day!
