Let's take a quick look a 10 step by step plan to get the most out of your keyword tool…

1. Find a good keyword research tool (like Jaaxy)

OK, I know I'm stating the obvious – but in order to research keywords, you need a good keyword research tool.

Stands to reason right?

It's pointless to try and brainstorm unique low-hanging keywords out of thin air. I'm in this business to make money and I'm not going to leave it to chance. Same for you, I'm sure.

This is where Jaaxy comes into it's own with powerful and live data. Take the guessing out of it and develop your content marketing strategy around what people are actually searching for.

With Jaaxy, all it takes is a simple idea and within minutes you'll have a full page of next post content ideas. You”re next posts list will never be short again. You'll never have to struggle to think what you can write about within your respective niche.

2. Starting the search

Write down a couple of ideas for your upcoming posts, try out a few searches. You'll immediately have a list of potential keywords to target.

At this point Jaaxy will be overflowing with low-competing, low-hanging keyword suggestions that could be used for your blog.

3. Related search terms

Take a look at the suggested keyword lists. You'll instantly be able to see how many people are searching for this keyword term each month, how may competing pages there and what your chances of ranking well for this keyword.

4. Using the ‘alphabet soup' technique

Once you've got a bunch of strong keywords, enter your keywords into Google.com going through the alphabet for your search term.

For example, let's say you have the keyword “smart phone”.

Start by typing “smartphone a” into Google and Google instant will give you regularly searched keyword suggestions.

For example: smartphone apps, smartphone brands, smartphone companies, smartphone comparison and so on.

Pick your favourite, paste them into Jaaxy and take a look at the results.

From the single search term, Jaaxy provides you with a lot many low competition phrases that are sure to get your business noticed.

You can repeat this process for all the letters of the alphabet. Before you've got hundreds of original content ideas.

5. Reverse alphabet soup

Okay, so this is the same thing but just done in reverse. Go through letters of the alphabet before your keyword this time.

Let's use the smartphone example again. Here's what I got: Amazon smartphone, a budget smartphone, best smartphone 2016, difference between smartphone and iphone, dual sim smartphone.

I'll stop there but you get the picture.

It gives a lot of relevant search terms associated with your keyword. Take those related search terms and put them into your research tool for further keyword analysis.

6. Save your keywords by creating lists for future reference

By now you'll be so buzzing with content ideas, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Simply save your keywords by creating a keyword lists.

Create as many as you like, one for each of your sites if you like. This allows you to revisit the potential keywords any time you feel like it.

7. Check keyword competition

You will notice that I have indicated the main two items within the search.

Monthly Searches: The estimated number of people searchign this term on any given month. According to research by SearchEngineWatch.com the number one rankings gets about 33% of the traffic and typically speaking, the top 3 websites to appear in the search engine results get up to 60% of the total traffic.

One thing that I want to emphasise is the fact that traffic is not the be all end all…

You could have a search terms with 10,000s of monthly searches but the high number of competing pages will make it impossible for you to rank for.

This is why I normally look at the competition (QSR) data first.

QSR: This is the competition. Jaaxy is designed to find out how many competing pages any search terms has and fast. For a new blog I recommend only targeting keywords with a QSR of 100 or less. As your site matures you can increase this. After 12 months, as long as you've been posting regularly, a QSR of up to 300 is fine.

KQI: Jaaxy give you a really quick and easy way to determine whether a keyword is worth chasing with content or not through the KQI traffic light system. You know the deal – green is great, go for it, orange maybe not sure and red is a no no!

I love using this as it allows me to quickly scan a list of keywords and visually find the ones that are more likely to be better keywords.

KQI takes into account the number of monthly searches, number of competing pages and gives you an overall score on the likelihood you'll rank well for that term.

With all this information at my fingertips, give me just 5 minutes and I'll have a long list of potential keywords I can target in my future blog posts. I never run out of ideas of things to blog about!

8. Check for a mix of head terms and long tail keywords

Head terms are words that re shorter and more generic. They blend in easily with any content on blog or website and discretely nudge a visitor to an action.

They can be one, two or three words long.

Long tail keywords on the other hand are longer, more specific phrases.

For good SEO you need a mixture of both head terms and long tail terms. Shorter terms are more frequently searched, but longer terms generally have less competition – Jaaxy will give you both!

9. Optimising the Jaaxy Keyword Tool

Jaaxy enables you to get search volume and traffic for a particular keyword. You'll get very specific information how competing pages and your chances for ranking for that search term.

This means you can run highly effective content marketing campaigns and target exactly the right keywords for you and your online business.
