Is PrizeRebel A Scam

Today we're putting PrizeRebel in the hot seat; a popular rewards site similar to InstaGC and Swagbucks that offers you a variety of ways to earn a bit of extra money.

They've been around since 2007, but is PrizeRebel a scam that takes your money or a legitimate website that puts money in?

That's exactly what we're going to find out in this full and honest PrizeRebel review.

PrizeRebel Review At A Glance

About: PrizeRebel is a survey site that pays in cash and gift cards.

Price: Free to join.

Pros: Signup process is fast, you can choose to get paid in cash or gift cards, has a referral program, responds to complaints.

Cons: Low income potential, the free trials can cause you to spend more than you'll ever make.

Verdict: PrizeRebel is not a scam. But taking surveys in Swagbucks will give better value to your time and effort.

What Is PrizeRebel?

PrizeRebel.com is free to join for anyone over 18. Anyone aged between 13 and 18 can also join with their parent's consent.

The site is open for new signups from any country, but you're more likely to get more earning opportunities if you're from the UK, US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

They have 155,000 fans on their Facebook page and 25,000 followers on Twitter.

Here's a quick video walkthrough of how PrizeRebel works:

How Much Money Can You Make?

Reach a balance of $5 or more and you can request payment via PayPal or electronic gift card. After searching their site I can find no earnings disclosure or any information about how much you can expect to earn but there's an easy way to find out…

PrizeRebel boasts over 7.5 million members. While this number appears impressive, what you and I really want to know is what the real earning potential is.

With 7.5 million members and a total of $15 million paid out since 2007, this works out at a rather disappointing $2 per member over the last 10 years. Now that's hardly a replacement for your full-time income, is it?

Signing Up With PrizeRebel

I decided to sign up myself to see what's on the inside. The homepage says it takes less than 10 seconds to become a member so let's see how that goes.

I went for the ‘Sign up with Facebook' option, created a password, confirmed I wasn't a robot and hit the Start Making Money button.

It really did only take me 10 seconds! Though I still have to fill out my profile questionnaires, the signup process was pretty straightforward. Happy days!

4 Ways To Make Money With PrizeRebel.com

Once inside the members' area I headed to the dashboard. In the top menu, I clicked the ‘Earn' tab which bought up these 4 earning methods:

1. Take Surveys

To see the full list of available surveys you need to complete a few profile questions. You'll be asked about things like your gender, address, age and household income.

The surveys seem to be powered from Peanut Labs, a survey site I reviewed recently which turns out to be safe and legit, though the name suits them well because they do actually pay peanuts, with the typical 30-minute survey paying just $0.25.

2. Sign Up For Free Trial Offers

I was a little taken aback to see that there were no offers available, but this could be down to my location or demographics perhaps? A little bit disappointing…

Usually they'll pay you to sign up to free trial offers and subscriptions for say, Netflix or Audible. Though be sure to cancel before the trial end date to avoid paying the full amount.

3. Complete Mini-Tasks

PrizeRebel have partnered up with CrowdFlower to give members the opportunity of earning small amounts of money completing short and simple tasks.

If you're interesting in carrying out mini-task gigs like this you might also want to check out my Amazon Mechanical Turk and Gigwalk reviews.

We're not talking about a lot of money here, maybe $0.01-$0.02 per task but most only take a minute or so.

4. Sign Friends Up Through The Referral Program

This is probably my personal favourite to make money with this site because it's the closest thing to affiliate marketing you can get, it doesn't suck all your time and has unlimited earning potential.

Click the Invite tab and you'll see the unique referral link you can use to share on social media or on your blog to earn 20% lifetime earnings of anyone you refer.

What I Like About PrizeRebel

  • Free sign up
  • It's not just a survey site
  • They pay cash directly into PayPal
  • They have a referral program
  • PrizeRebel staff respond to each complaint on SurveyPolice

What I Don't Like So Much…

  • The average lifetime earnings per member is $2
  • Surveys are low paying and time-consuming
  • There were no surveys available for me
  • Mini-tasks only pay $0.01 a time
  • The trial offers can easily end up costing you money if you're not careful

Is PrizeRebel A Scam?

PrizeRebel is NOT a scam. They're a legit rewards site that pays members what they're owed 99 times out of 100. Sure, there are complaints and negative reviews about them online but you could say that about any website.

The main issue I have with PrizeRebel is, aside from the referral program, the amount you can earn is extremely limited and it will take you a few weeks (minimum) of consistent effort to reach the $5 withdrawal limit.

Is PrizeRebel Right For You?

While reward sites market themselves as a fun and easy way to make extra cash, the reality is you're working for less than national minimum wage and it's just not worth your while…

Especially when there are a ton of ways to actually replace your income on the internet. This is why I quit taking surveys and started an online business.

  1. Hmm, I’ve run into way too many sites like this. Thanks for the review!

I have to admit, I’m really starting to feel like survey sites just aren’t worth the time. My favorite is Product Report Card, because it’s set me up with some product testing which is really easy, and usually pays ok, but even so… these survey sites just seem to suck up valuable time.

That’s awesome that your own affiliate marketing business has taken off so well!

How long did it take you to start finding success with it??

    • You can read my success story here but after 1 year I was at the $1,000 per month mark, enough to quit my full-time job and move from England to Thailand full-time.

The main difference between sites like PrizeRebel starting your own internet business is that with one you’re working jobs online for little pay and with the other, you’re building an income-producing asset that builds and builds.
